Listen to this great interview with the effervescent wee Scotsman Mike Drury from the The Whisky Castle in Tomintoul, Scotland. Mike offers over 600 malt whiskies and offers all visitors regular tasting of almost any whisky they want. The 19th century premises have been a whisky shop for over a hundred years.
This Collection of Malt Whiskies is quite outstanding! Mike has whisky’s from distilleries that are no more and, wherever possible, specialise in ‘Independent Bottling’- stocking many of the rarest and highest quality malts available. PodAsia’s friend and guide, Peter, drove us there; which was just as well!
The name of the glass that Mike refers to is a Glencairn Glass. You can tilt the glass, swirl, splash smell the whisky and of course not spill a drop of the precious amber liquid. Check out Glencairn here or that web jewel of truth, Wikipedia here.
Takes some time to get to Tomintoul (make sure you don’t drink and drive) but well worth the visit - even if you don’t like whisky! Listen to this interesting interview - a PodAsia must see.
