049 - Castles in Scotland, UK
SHOW NOTES - episode 049: Scotland, UK
In recent years, air travel has significantly changed. There are now six major air ports in Scotland: Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness & Prestwick. Plenty of flights and there are some real bargains to be had.
There are numerous carriers: Ryanair, Air Canada, American, BMI, Easyjet, BA, KLM and more.
Boeing delivers the 2,000th Next-Generation 737-700 to Southwest Airlines. The 2,000th jet sports a commemorative decal near its nose. A few years ago, Singapore Airlines was the world first airline to receive the 1,000th 747 aircraft.
For any traveller to Scotland, there are the castles and these are a must see. We visited castle Dunnottarr (pronounced da-nay-ter) which is a stunning ruin on the Northeast coast near the small town of Stonehaven, a little South of Aberdeen. Our relative Sally, kindly zoomed us - and I mean zoomed ! - in her car there.
Dunnottarr is from the 12th century and the castles remains are situated on a rock formation that forms a very defensible island. Once “inside” the castle, on top of the formation, however, there is a typically beautiful Scottish lawn surrounded by the castle buildings.
Castle Dunnottarr is famous in Scottish history for being the location where the Scottish royal heraldry were kept hidden from the English Cromwelian forces for a while.
For further information about this castle visit the Dunnottarr Castle website.
