MUST WATCH - This week we launched another of the quick video reviews for Phnom Penh which includes arriving at Phnom Penh International Airport (Pochentong International Airport), a quick tour and walk through the area surrounding the Raffles Hotel and some street images of Phnom Penh. [here]
VISIT AND ACCOMODATION Raffles Hotel Le Royal is one of the premier hotel in Phnom Penh, a hotel with those rare attributes of history and style. It was first established in 1929, and in its early heyday enjoyed an international clientele comprising globetrotters and adventurers, writers and journalists, royalty and dignitaries.
Reopened in 1997 after a careful restoration and refurbishment programme by Raffles International, the grand historic hotel has a wide range of facilities and amenities, but imparts an old-world charm through its style and decor, which is elegant yet comfortable, classic yet casual.
This hotel offers 170 guest rooms, suites and executive apartments, each tastefully appointed with Cambodian-style furnishings and objects d’art. The rooms are spread over three separate but interconnecting low-rise wings, set around the garden courtyard and swimming pools. The main building has been beautifully restored and refurbished to its original architectural style. The hotel’s six room types include the following amenities:
• Personal valet service
• Full air conditioning with thermostat control
• Two-line telephone with international direct dialling
• Dataport for fax / modem (low speed connection only!)
• In-room safe
• Well stocked minibar / refrigerator
• Cable TV, satellite channels
• In-house movie channels
PodAsia recommends you take a Landmark Room or a Landmark Suite. Great for the travel experience and furnished with a luxurious blend of Cambodian and art deco themes.
The rooms are decorated with memorabilia and artefacts reminiscent of the Golden Age of Travel.
For internet connection there is hotel wide wi-fi service available. Reliable and 54mbps but costs you up to USD20 for 24 hours connection. Not cheap.

TECHNOLOGY: LEANING TOWER OF PODSTATION
The hard working PodStation designed by Matthew Holden (left) had a minor problem recently when the plastic wheels broke, resulting in a 15 degree bank to starboard! Rather dangerous with the kiddies running around but fixed now with a set of solid metal and rubber wheels attached.
PodStation uses Mackie Mixer, TL Audio 5052 compressor, Aphex aural exciter, Shure SM7 microphones and provision for two guest microphone positions. There is also Blaupunkt S-VHS and Sony HDV video decks for video editing and production.
Great free Podsafe music this week from Caplyn - "The Revelolution will Come" and "Vegas Hard rock shuffle" by Charlie Crowe - both from the Podsafe Music Network.
